This post may contain graphic images of steel pins and tears.Step #1: Excited and happy to get cast and pins removed.Step #2: Cutting off PINK "sparkly" cast.Step #3: Removing cast Step #4: Took top part of cast off...waiting for surgeons assistant.
Nurse asks, "Carly do you want to keep your cast?"
Carly quickly replies, "NO!"
Nurse, "oh you want nothing to remind you this ever happened!"

Step #5: Bottom part of cast removed along with wrappings.

When Carly saw her pins for the first time she said, "LEAVE them in!"

Step #6: Turning Carly's head away from the procedure and putting my head up to hers to block the removal of pins.
Step #7: Tears shed...pins removed.
Step #8: All done...let's get out of here.
Step #9: Thanking the kind nurse and surgeon assistant.

They say, "GREAT job Carly, see you in 3 weeks!"

Step #10: Home, showing Dad the 3 pin holes.

No baths or soaking in hot water for 3-5 days. If any GREEN stuff comes out of pin holes call IMMEDIATELY! Step #11: The 3 pins that fixed Carly's cute little arm.

Everything went GREAT today! Carly freaked out when she saw the yellow cleaning solution on her arm, so we came home and took a shower and cleaned her arm up.

We are very grateful for modern technology and the skilled professions (and did I mention excellent INSURANCE?)!

Thank you Oma for watching Cole and for lunch!

My big SISTER is one year OLDER!

My big sister LaSchelle turned 38 today!
We were the BEST of friends. I loved having her so close in age to play with all the time.
We always shared a room. She did a great job at decorating our room with posters. We would stay up way into the night laughing, talking, tickling, fighting (who took up more of the bed or pulled more of the covers), playing and telling secrets. I loved sharing clothes even though sometimes we didn't want the other to wear something we had just bought!

Poor LaSchelle I followed her everywhere. Here we were at our young women leaders house swimming and laying out. I always wanted to be where she was. Her friends were always so nice to me and I thought she was SO cool!
This is her senior prom with Kurt. Oh how she loved him. He reminded us of Kevin Bacon (from Footloose). He was the best thing that ever happened to her. They were a great together. He was so patient with ALL her little brothers and sisters. I remember how SAD she was when he left on his mission.

Luckily things worked out and they got married in the Mesa Arizona Temple. I still remember the RED dress I wore for their reception.

I love LaSchelle! She has always been a great example to me. She has been an amazing friend and sister. I love all the girls nights we've had, the long phone calls sharing the ups and downs of life, her watching Lindsey when I had to work teaching, sharing decorating ideas, my trips to Texas to visit, hanging out and her just being there when I needed her. I hate having her live so far away, but am glad we still get to talk all the time on the phone and treasure the times she and her family come to visit! I hope you have a great birthday and want to thank you for always letting me tag along! Love you lots!

a day spent at the dOcToR...

Today went nothing like I planned.
Carly had an orthopedic appt. at 9:45 am. We were told her cast and pins would come off/out. Arrived at 9:44...

We were the only people in the waiting room. While waiting we took pictures of her creatively designed cast.
Lot's of people love Carly.
She brought a black SHARPIE marker to church for 2 of Lindsey's friends to sign. She promised them they could sign it and because she knew it was coming off today she HAD to have them sign it.
Of course, Erik with his artistic ability drew "Hello Kitty" on her cast.
About 15 minutes later we were called back. Within 5 minutes x-rays were taken (an amazing machine) and the doctor decided the pins/cast weren't quite ready to come out/off. We were told FRIDAY! Carly was sad...the itching has really started to get bad. She got a CHOCOLATE succor and the tears were gone. Okay now after schedule her next appt. we were out of there 30 minutes TOTAL.
Well we ran to the scout shop to buy BIRDHOUSES (lucky Bear den gets to build them this week).
We had an appt. scheduled at our Pediatric Dr. office for 11:30 Carly needed a well check up to get established with them (we have been going to them for 2 1/2 years and Carly hasn't ever been in - only the night after hrs. which doesn't count apparently, she is our HEALTHY child). Decided we would go straight there - you know get there early fill out the massive amount of paper work and then be done!
Walk in the door at 11:00 and no lie walk out the doors at 1:30pm!!!
I couldn't believe it. Carly was so good. We read books, watched movies, played with the toys and tried really hard to not be TOO mad! Lucky for them and us COLE was NOT with us. I would have never lasted.
The doctor was so kind and apologetic, but come on. If we would have forgotten the appt. we would have been charged $30. Showed up late told SORRY you missed your appt. That is what I don't get. They can run late, take our credit card number to charge fees our insurance doesn't cover and we can't show up 10 minutes late without being told SORRY you missed your appt. Why can't it be two sided. Oh I am bugged!
Carly is a doll and very patient. She was starving and waited very patiently. I love her and was very proud of her today. Not only did we have to wait forever to be seen she had to get TWO shots I didn't know she needed. I told her it was her choice as to where we would go for lunch.
I told her to make a sad face because of her shots! She did a GOOD face!

Now that's the Carly I know, HAPPY! We enjoyed a quiet lunch at Barro's Pizza.

We got home at 2:45 and had to leave at 3:15 to get to Lindsey's volleyball game, crazy!

Erik got to take Lindsey to the ORTHODONTIST today. She thought maybe she would get her braces off. We told her not today, but that the Dr. would probably talk about when that would happen. She was thinking tomorrow possible, he told her JANUARY 5, that was not HAPPY news for Lindsey. Sorry sweetheart! Just think about how PERFECT your teeth will be. January will be 2 months shy of her having them on 3 YEARS! What a good sport. Erik was also a GOOD sport for taking Cole with him (he said it was SO much fun chasing/trying to keep him quiet at the appt.)

She was not happy tonight when she went to FHE at Gramers and Papa's and Lauren and Megan had gotten their braces off last week.

Lindsey WON her volleyball game! Thanks to Oma, Papa, and Logan for coming.

Off to grab dinner DRIVE through style (Burger King) and go to FHE at Gramers and Papa Morris' house.

What a day...I guess you can imagine after baths/showers the kids crashed in their beds. I can't believe I am still up!

First time...second time...

First time... 3 years ago Carly broke her tibia and ulnar bones (wrist area - right arm) playing at a park on the wiggly bridge (we didn't know it was broken!). Three weeks after her cast was on they took x-rays and decided it wasn't in the right place. They had to put her under and re-set her arm. Time for a new cast and re-set the calendar date as to when it would come off.
What a beautiful little angel!
Second time... Carly today with a broken humerus (left arm bone right above her elbow). This break required surgery and 3 pins. Monkey bars at lunch recess in the first grade.

She has been such a trooper!

Queen Creek Elementary School
Student of the Month
CARLY MORRIS
from Mrs. Schiermyer's FIRST grade class

What a neat little program. The school called our home a few days before and told us Carly would be receiving this award could we please come to the school for the program Friday, 8-29-08. Not only did they have Carly come up front, but any parent(s) who were there. Her teacher read this cute little comment about Carly...

My choice for Student of the Month is Carly Morris. Carly is an awesome first grader in my classroom. She is a wonderful role model for others. She always follows directions and does her work quietly. Carly is also very organized and she helps others keep on track. She is a wonderful reader and I'm excited to see all of the great work she will do this year in first grade. Carly has even managed to continue having a positive attitude after her injury on the playground. I feel lucky to be Carly's teacher this year. Keep up the great work Carly!

Way to go Carly girl, we are so PROUD of you!
